The M113A4 Armored Medical Evacuation Vehicle (AMEV) was a U.S. Army battlefield ambulance developed to replace the M113A2/A3 armored ambulance. Designed to evacuate and treat wounded soldiers while keeping pace with mechanized forces, it featured space for four litter or eight ambulatory patients, improved medical equipment, NBC protection, and a more powerful mobility package. Development began after Army studies in the 1990s identified shortcomings in earlier M113 ambulances. The AMEV was intended to operate alongside the M577A4 Armored Treatment Vehicle as part of a modern armored medical support system.
