The Israeli M113 Fitter (often based on the M579 repair vehicle) was an armored field-maintenance and recovery vehicle used to repair, recover, and support damaged armored vehicles close to the front line. It carried a crane, winching equipment, tools, spare parts, and a crew of mechanics. The Israel Defense Forces operated it alongside their large M113 fleet, and it saw service in major conflicts including the Yom Kippur War, the 1982 Lebanon War, and later operations in Lebanon and the occupied territories. It remained valuable because it provided protected battlefield repair capability on the same chassis as other Israeli M113 variants.
